Fairtrade campaign
To secure Fairtrade status the Island needs to have thirty shops which offer at least two different fairtrade products and fifteen catering outlets that offer two different products. Consumers can also use the Isle of Wight Fairtrade Forum site to find out where to buy fairtrade coffee and other products on the Isle of Wight. Council endorsementThe Full Council on June 22, 2005 approved a motion which committed the Council to offering Fairtrade marked products for purchase internally, and at internal meetings, as part of its commitment to sustainable development. The motion also said that a paper detailing the steps which the Isle of Wight Council needs to take to help the Island gain Fairtrade status will be put before the Cabinet.
