Council Tax via Citizens Access Portal

You can access your Council Tax account via the Isle of Wight Citizens Access portal.

 The Citizens Access portal will allow you to complete the following tasks online:

 Register for Council Tax - moving into the area or moving within the area.

  • Report a change - use the unique On-Line Key shown on your most recent bill. To view an example of a bill click here (PDF, 298.96kb, 1 page)

  • To view your payments and account balance.

  • Set up or amend a direct debit. (Note- when selecting option "1st of the month 12" instalments will be spread over twelve months provided there are twelve available within the current financial year)

  • Check a council tax banding charge.

  • View details of your current benefit claim.

Please note: when using the citizens access portal you can save your answers online and return to complete the notification within 28 days. However if you fail to submit all the information within the period advised then the  saved information will automatically be deleted.

When advising us of changes in advance of 30 days or retrospectively, these cannot be updated using the Citizens Access Portal. You will need to call us with this information on telephone 01983 823901 so we can process your information and provide further advice if needed.

Important Information to help you view your Council Tax Account online

You will need to correctly input the following information in order to view your council tax account details using the citizen access portal:

Full Name - your name as it appears exactly on your council tax bill.

Your Online Key - This is shown at the top of your bill. Please note: each time we issue you with a bill the online access code changes, so check you are using the latest code from your most recent bill.

Contact Details - the last three digits of your bank account if you pay by Direct Debit, or the last three digits of any telephone number you may have supplied.  If you have not previously provided a contact telephone number you will be unable to view your council tax account.  To provide a contact telephone number and email address to enable viewing your council tax account please email quoting your council tax account reference number requesting the details be entered so you can view your account using Citzens Access Portal.

Postcode- details should be entered in the format e.g. PO36 9EA.

If you are already a payer of Council Tax with Isle of Wight Council and want to set up a Direct Debit or inform of a change to your council tax details, select Council Tax Notification and then New Notification.  From here you can enter details of:

  • Moving from one property to another or out of the area.
  • Apply for a single person discount or cancel a single person discount.
  • Change personal details, for example correcting the name.
  • Set up a direct debit.

You will need to enter your contact phone number and/or email address; also the council tax account reference number from your bill.  The online key is not needed for the above.
