British Lung Foundation - Keep Active, Keep Well

Keep Active, Keep Well is a course specifically designed by the British Lung Foundation to help you manage your breathlessness.

We understand breathlessness can be scary. We want to help with this and help you get back to doing things that you enjoy. Being as active as you can is an important step in managing your breathlessness. We know this may seem like the last thing that would help. Our course will help to show you how small changes could make a big difference to your daily life.

We can support you in two ways:

  1. Telephone support. Assessing your needs and goals, we will work with you to create an activity plan that suits you and your condition. We will also provide follow up support to see how you are getting on.

  2. A 12 week group course. We will talk about how activity can help you and work with you to create a personalised plan. We will also give you the opportunity to take part in some gentle exercise. As well as providing tasters of local activities in you area to see what you like, don’t or may like to take up.

You can participate as much or as little as you want, which ever is right for you.

The courses are run by fully qualified staff who are there to support you and your needs and most importantly, to help you find the right way to get more active.

Discover what is right for you.

If you find your breathlessness limits your ability to do things, then this course is for you. Whether that be getting up the stairs or walking to the bus stop, playing golf or getting out in the garden.  If you think you would like to be more active but you don’t know how, then we can help you with this too.  We will discuss ways to be more active and how to do it.  We are here to work with you to will help you to get back to doing the things you enjoy and reduce your breathlessness.

“When I started, I was resistant. But this class has done me the world of good. I feel better in myself. I don’t feel sluggish.” Ellen, BLF Active member.
